Typeface History Calendar Design

Background

Recently I saw an Instagram post about recycling waste which made me recall that every year my family throws away the old objects and very occasionally recycles them. The same might be the case with so many other families. Calendars are something that are being thrown constantly every year and find their way to the large piles of waste. The main reason why people don't recycle is the fact that they need to wait for a long time to collect objects for recycling and get money from it. They throw paper because they know that paper is biodegradable. Whilst they are true, recycling paper is still better than degrading it. Recycling can save trees and even reduce the pollution but making such a large mass switch to recycling seems next to impossible.

Thus this problem requires to be thought from a different Perspective. What if people do not need to recycle? What if people no more need to throw calendars? What if calendars become more interesting and have better use? This all question will make better sense once you read the problem statement written below.

Problem Statement:

‘‘The calendar is thrown as the information is of no use after the year ends.’’

Solution

The solution to the problem seems quiet straight forward & simple:

•   Calendars display Useful Content making people store or use it after the year ends.
•   Table calendar with A5 Size Seed Page will reduce the paper usage and grow into a plant under favorable conditions.
•   70% area to the useful content and 30% area to the dates will further reduce the wastage.
•   A piece of marker sheet in the date area will allow the users to note down everyday to-do-list.
•   Tearing date section will allow users to recycle or even throw away unwanted 30% area.

In my case I wanted to explore history of typography through my design and thus I created a type timeline that give complete information about the evolution of typefaces. I was wondering if my college NIFT could give such a calendar to students, teachers & staff on start of every year. Thus I named this project The NIFT Calendar Design.

Here I have provided detailed images of each page of calendar
